** Traffic Update **
All lanes of Havendale Blvd. are back open after being shut down for more than an hour when a vehicle hit a power pole causing the power lines to fall across the stretch of roadway.
At this time, I do not have driver information, but preliminary information into the crash is as follows:
According to witnesses, a white unknown make/model car was in the inside lane traveling westbound on Havendale Blvd. A black Eclipse was in the center lane and a white pickup in the outside lane. The Eclipse and unknown type car were reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when they approached slower traffic. The driver of the Eclipse veered into the lane of travel of the pickup truck, clipping the truck and causing it to spin and leave the roadway. The truck travelled off the roadway and struck the water main for Champions Church.
The driver of the Eclipse continued to slide sideways off the roadway striking a concrete light pole causing it to break at the base. The power lines dropped low into the roadway causing both directions of travel to be shut down until Tampa Electric officials could secure the wire.
The driver of the Eclipse was taken to the Winter Haven Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The crash is currently under investigation. Speed appears to be a factor. Anyone with information on the driver of the white vehicle that left the crash or anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Robert Bonsall at 863-401-2256.
